In the center of Aegean are the Cyclades, a group of islands forming a rough circle round Delos. In antiquity only twelve or fifteen islands were regarded as belonging to the Cyclades and they depended on Delos. Today some thirty islands and islets are comprised within the Nome of Cyclades, with its Capital at Ermoupolis (Syros).
